University College, an affiliate of Azusa Pacific University and a significant part of the evolving Azusa Pacific University System, has recently announced its name change to Los Angeles Pacific University (LAPU). The name Los Angeles Pacific draws upon the rich heritage of APU, recognizing Los Angeles Pacific College, a Free Methodist institution, that merged with Azusa College in 1965, to later become Azusa Pacific University. This change does not impact the more than 10,000 students who attend Azusa Pacific University, established in 1899, and its eight Southern California locations.
The Western Association of Schools and Colleges Senior College and University Commission granted initial accreditation to LAPU for six years in February 2018, and LAPU is now ready to move forward as a separately accredited university with its 3,200 students.
LAPU, formerly University College, serves working adults and emerging leaders with cutting-edge certificates, associate’s degrees, bachelor’s degrees, and master’s degrees delivered online and in the evenings to meet the career needs of adult learners. LAPU offers accessible and affordable degree programs in criminal justice, health sciences, information systems, interdisciplinary studies, leadership, liberal studies, management, and psychology.
