The Rowland Unified School District (RUSD) is partnering with Azusa Pacific University to create a pathway to college for Nogales, Rowland, and Santana high school students. To celebrate this important new partnership, APU will host a reception on Thurs., November 16, 2017, at 6 p.m. inside the university’s Welcome Center, located at 901 East Alosta Ave., in Azusa. Representatives present will include APU President Jon R. Wallace, DBA, and Superintendent Julie Mitchell, Ed.D. Media are invited to the event, which includes a signing of the memorandum of understanding, refreshments, and photo opportunities with APU’s Cougar mascot.
This agreement provides RUSD high school students who meet admissions requirements with guaranteed admittance to APU, a $10,000 renewable scholarship, application fee waiver, and support with the application process.
“The Board of Education and I are thrilled that this partnership with Azusa Pacific will open doors and make college more accessible for many of our students,” said Mitchell. “Providing students with the skills they need to succeed in the workforce or college is our priority.”
The agreement begins fall 2017 and also includes this year’s graduates who met the program’s academic requirements. Incoming high school freshmen who successfully follow the academic pathway all four years will be eligible. In addition, current sophomores and juniors, who meet the requirements, may pursue this educational option.
“Rowland Unified is a leading school district in California, committed to academic excellence,” said Wallace. “We look forward to welcoming many of their graduates into the APU family through this partnership that makes college more attainable and affordable.”
