Monrovia Unified School District is partnering with Azusa Pacific University to create a pathway to college for Monrovia’s High School students. The Monrovia Board of Education approved a memorandum of understanding with APU at its July 26, 2017, meeting. This agreement provides Monrovia High School students who meet admissions requirements with guaranteed admittance to APU, a $10,000 renewable scholarship, application fee waiver, and support with the application process.
“Monrovia Unified is committed to equipping our students with the necessary skills and knowledge that will prepare them for college and career,” said Superintendent Katherine Thorossian, Ed.D. “Our partnership with Azusa Pacific provides our students with additional resources to ensure they stay on track throughout high school to reach their goals for higher education.”
The agreement begins fall 2017 and also includes this year’s graduates who met the program’s academic requirements. Incoming high school freshmen who successfully follow the academic pathway all four years will be eligible. In addition, current sophomores and juniors, who meet the requirements, may pursue this educational option.
“Azusa Pacific University and Monrovia Unified School District both equip students to be ethical leaders who make a difference in their communities so our school is a natural fit for their graduates, yet private college can seem out of reach for many families,” said President Jon R. Wallace, DBA. “We are committed to making college more accessible and affordable for our neighbors and we look forward to welcoming many Monrovia High School students into our APU family.”
