Azusa Pacific University and Duarte Unified School District are joining together to create a pathway to college for Duarte High School students. To celebrate this important new partnership, APU will host a reception on Mon., June 19, 2017, at 2:30 p.m. inside the university’s Welcome Center, located at 901 East Alosta Ave., in Azusa. APU President Jon R. Wallace, DBA, and Superintendent Allan Mucerino, Ed.D., and incoming freshman and current APU students who graduated from Duarte High School will attend. Media are invited to the event, which includes a signing of the memorandum of understanding, refreshments, and photo opportunities with APU’s Cougar mascot.
Duarte High School students who meet admissions requirements will receive guaranteed admittance to APU, a $10,000 renewable scholarship, application fee waiver, and support with the application process. “On behalf of our Board of Education, staff, students and their families, we look forward to this exciting opportunity with APU,” said Mucerino. “Along with our recent partnership with California School of the Arts, this agreement with APU demonstrates Duarte’s commitment to advance its school district and increase the success of its students while promoting a college bound culture.”
The agreement begins fall 2017 and also includes this year’s graduates who met the program’s academic requirements. Incoming high school freshmen who successfully follow the academic pathway all four years will be eligible. In addition, current sophomores and juniors, who meet the requirements, may pursue this educational option.
“For a great number of students across the San Gabriel Valley, Azusa Pacific University is their first choice, yet private college can seem out of reach for many families,” said Wallace. “We are committed to making college more accessible and affordable for our neighbors and we look forward to welcoming many Duarte High School graduates into our APU family.”
