Azusa Pacific University's Department of Theater Arts presents William Shakespeare's comedy Twelfth Night. The show runs from March 23-April 1, with Thursday, Friday, and Saturday performances at 7:30 p.m., as well as Saturday matinee shows at 2 p.m. The production takes place in the Blackbox Theater, located on APU’s West Campus, at 701 W. Foothill Blvd. in Azusa. Free parking is available. General admission tickets cost $21, with discounted tickets for senior citizens, military personnel, students, and alumni. For tickets, call the Felix Events Center Box Office at (626) 815-5494 or order them online. Purchasing tickets in advance is highly recommended. The show is intended for ages 12 and older.
Through a shipwreck, mistaken identities, and unrequited love, Shakespeare examines loss and love in a romantic comedy that follows the mishaps of Viola and her brother Sebastian. Set in the Old Globe, Twelfth Night is at times heartbreaking and hilarious. Through role reversals and mistaken identity, the play examines the importance of authenticity and fidelity in love. The production is directed by adjunct professor Kevin Slay, MFA, who is a national winner in Theater Direction from the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. Slay has also directed Cyrano, The Sneeze, and Romeo and Juliet at APU.
“Setting our production at the Old Globe is a wonderful academic moment for our students who study Shakespeare and have learned about the productions who performed at London’s Old Globe during the Elizabethan era,” said Jill Lincoln, MA, chair of APU’s Department of Theater Arts.
APU’s plays and musicals are produced through a program of rigorous training. The Department of Theater Arts prepares outstanding, innovative, and influential artists in an ever-growing and multi-faceted performing arts profession.
