Azusa Pacific University's Department of Theater Arts presents Trojan Women, a live rendition of the Greek tragedy by the playwright Euripides, later adapted in 1995 by Ellen McLaughlin. The show runs November 10-19, with Thursday, Friday, and Saturday performances at 7:30 p.m., as well as Saturday matinee shows at 2 p.m. The production takes place in the Blackbox Theater, located on APU’s West Campus, 701 W. Foothill Blvd. in Azusa. Free parking is available. General admission tickets cost $21, with discounted tickets for senior citizens, military personnel, students, and alumni. For tickets, call the Felix Events Center Box Office at (626) 815-5494 or order them online. Purchasing tickets in advance is highly recommended. The show is intended for ages 12 and older.
Set after the fall of Troy in the 12th century B.C., Trojan Women tells the story of the women of Troy as they await their fate after their city has been destroyed, their husbands killed, and their remaining family enslaved. Trojan Women artistically explores the themes of honor, duty, and commitment as the women rebuild their lives. The production is directed by guest director Kristi Papailler, MFA, who has extensive experience as an assistant professor of acting and directing for Cal State San Bernardino.
“We in APU Theater Arts believe stories are a gift from God and are meant to be shared. Similarly, Biblical stories aim to have an effect on the reader, and we know they have succeeded when they stick with us. Our theatrical season in 2022-23 has the potential to bring us together as well as leave us with lasting impressions and a better understanding of humanity,” said Jill Lincoln, MA, chair of APU’s Department of Theater Arts.
APU’s plays and musicals are produced through a program of rigorous training. The Department of Theater Arts prepares outstanding, innovative, and influential artists in an ever-growing and multi-faceted performing arts profession.
