Azusa Pacific University's Department of Theater Arts presents Phantom of the Opera, a live rendition of the French novel by Gaston Leroux with an enthralling score by Andrew Lloyd Webber. The show runs October 6-22, with Thursday, Friday, and Saturday performances at 7:30 p.m., as well as Saturday matinee shows at 2 p.m. The production takes place in the Warehouse Theater, located on APU’s West Campus, 701 W. Foothill Blvd. in Azusa. Free parking is available. General admission tickets cost $27, with discounted tickets for senior citizens, military personnel, students, and alumni. For tickets, call the Felix Events Center Box Office at (626) 815-5494 or order them online. Purchasing tickets in advance is highly recommended. The show is intended for ages 12 and older.
Based in the 19th century, Phantom of the Opera tells the story of a beautiful soprano singer who becomes the obsession of a masked musical genius living beneath the Paris Opera House. Phantom of the Opera is luxuriously orchestrated and acted, magnificent in scenery and costumes, and awesome in scale. The production is directed by guest director, Gary Krinke, who directed APU’s The Addams Family, and has extensive experience as a director at Fullerton College.
“APU Theater Arts Department is one-of-five in the nation to receive the rights to produce Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Phantom of the Opera. Our production will feature a live 14-piece orchestra,” said Jill Lincoln, MA, chair of APU’s Department of Theater Arts.
APU’s plays and musicals are produced through a program of rigorous training. The Department of Theater Arts prepares outstanding, innovative, and influential artists in an ever-growing and multi-faceted performing arts profession.
