Biography

Sally Alonzo Bell, Ph.D., LCSW, is currently professor in the Social Work Department in the School of Behavioral and Applied Sciences. From 1991 to 2003 she served as chair of the Department of Social Work at Azusa Pacific University. She received her MSW/Ph.D. from the University of California at Los Angeles’s School of Social Welfare. Before becoming a university professor, she worked 13 years for L.A. County: Community Mental Health, McLaren Children’s Center, and Baldwin Park's Alcohol Abuse Programs. Alonzo Bell has also served on the Board of Directors for a variety of national social work education organizations. On the Council for Social Work Education, she has served as BSW director’s representative and has been appointed to several committees. On the Association of Baccalaureate Social Work Directors, she has served as member-at-large and secretary, and has served on many other committees. Alonzo Bell served the National Association of Social Workers, California Chapter (NASWCA) in a variety of capacities: first vice president; regional director; and alternate director. She has been appointed to the following chapter commissions/committees: BSW Recruitment and Retention (chair); Affirmative Action; Title Protection; Regional Realignment; Child Labor; and Annual Awards (chair). Alonzo Bell was 1999 Social Worker of the Year for NASWCA, Region I.
