October 10, 2007
"Let's start the countdown." Voices whooped and cheered in the dark. "Ten, nine, eight . . ." Smiles of anticipation broke out on the faces of many in the crowd. "Five, four, three, two, one!" Lights flooded the lawn. Looks of sheer delight could be seen on young and old alike. The university's Azusa Foothill Drive-in Theater marquee flashed brightly once again.
America’s World Role: An Imperial Burden or an Empire in the Fine Old British Tradition?
October 03, 2007
For the first time since 1989 – or arguably, since 1945 – the United States faces an opportunity to reshape the world. It has inherited Britain’s imperial mantle to the point that a future historian may see the British and American empires as a single development, growing like a walnut tree as two trunks from a single root.

By the amount of energy radiating through the camp, you’d never know this boisterous group just returned from 11 days of backpacking through the wilderness. On Track for Success
July 02, 2007
Auto racing, specifically NASCAR, has come a long way from its Southern-bred, country-fried, “good-old boys” image. It is now the nation’s second-most popular sport on television (behind the NFL), and in 2006, 17 of the 20 highest-attended sporting events in the nation were NASCAR events.
Sixty Years Later: Taking Stock of APU’s Leadership Heritage
June 21, 2007
Though the deaths of Mary A. Hill, Bertha Pinkham Dixon, and Ruth Esther Smith in 1947 did not produce front-page headlines, even 60 years later their powerful legacies of lifelong Christian service stand as hallmarks. They were among the “founding mothers” of the Training School for Christian Workers (now Azusa Pacific University) and were instrumental in shaping the institution’s outward focus, alive today in the Academic Vision 2016, which identifies intentional internationalization as a major initiative for the next decade. Who were these women and how did they model intentional internationalization?

Sarah turns 15 years old today. She looks forward to a few presents, some well-wishes from her friends at school, and maybe some birthday cake. She feels officially like a young woman, hoping for and dreaming of a promising future. But she has a 1 in 10 chance of surviving to her 35 birthday. Sarah is HIV positive. And so is 36.8 percent of her nation’s population.

An Unlikely Partnership
June 08, 2007
It is a cool, overcast December afternoon as Paulo Sandoval approaches the runway. Full speed ahead he goes, before gently slowing down and heaving another javelin toward the 50-yard line. One down, another 20 to 25 more throws to go, and it is just another typical Thursday afternoon at the Azusa Pacific track.

Run to the Horizon: Los Angeles' Annual Marathon
April 12, 2007
Imagine lacing your tennis shoes as you crouch readily at the starting line, eager to vault your body forward with your best foot at the air-shattering sound of the gun blast. Your heart races uncontrollably with mere anticipation, yet your mind is more focused and calm than you ever could have imagined. After preparation through months of agonizing self-sacrifice and having defeated yourself over and over in training for your ultimate goal, you anxiously wait to reach the finish line.
