The Los Angeles County Office of Education hosted the annual History Day L.A. on March 14 at Azusa Pacific. Youth from across Los Angeles County attended to compete in this history-based learning experience.
Is Happiness a Serious Problem?

“Happy people make the world a better place.” Such truth is difficult to come by and even more difficult to accept, yet author Dennis Prager proved happier than ever as he shared that statement and similar ideas about happiness on February 26 when he arrived to speak at Azusa Pacific University. Prager spoke about the core ideas of his book, Happiness is a Serious Problem: a Human Nature Repair Manual, and made it clear that this was more than a light and carefree topic saying, “everyone has a moral obligation to be happy.”

APU Theater Presents The Music Man

The APU theater transformed into River City as the university kicked off its 2008-09 theater season with one of their trademark musicals, The Music Man. Sure to be another feather in their cap of outstanding performances, the production opened to multiple sold out performances. APU Theater has continually proven their excellence over the years, particularly in the musical genre, often selling out performances and providing audiences with great entertainment.
City Links Returns with Record Numbers and a Renewed Focus

One of the best ways to get connected in a new city is to make an intentional effort to be a part of it. On four consecutive Saturdays this fall, beginning on September 14, APU Alpha groups did exactly that. City Links, a former initiative that allowed first-year students to partner with various churches, schools, and organizations in the community to serve, returned this year.
Gold Medalist Bryan Clay on Letterman, KKLA, and KLAC

APU Summer Sports Camps

Azusa Pacific University's summer sports camps drew youth participants from the surrounding areas throughout June and July. The university offered local youth and elite athletes alike the opportunity to attend soccer and softball camps to develop their skills and learn about teamwork.
APU Hosts Local Youth for Seventh Annual G.A.T.E. Summer School Program

On June 24, Azusa Pacific University welcomed local youth to campus for the seventh annual Gifted and Talented Education (G.A.T.E.) summer school program. Students from third grade through high school were invited to participate in a five-week educational experience taught by selected Azusa Unified School District (AUSD) and APU faculty. Established in 2001 by Alice Watkins, Ph.D., former dean of APU’s School of Education, and then assistant superintendent of AUSD, the G.A.T.E. Program has flourished into the popular summertime enrichment destination for the Azusa community. Since the start of the program, enrollment has grown from 60 students to 260 in 2005, and has continued to bring in over 250 students each year since.

With only days left before the Olympic Games, taking place August 8-24, AM 570 Radio KLAC welcomed Clay as a guest on the Loose Cannons show July 21 to find out what makes him arguably the best athlete on the planet.
Azusa Leaders Unite in Prayer

Azusa Pacific University played host to the first Azusa Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast in 15 years on May 28. This event brought together Azusa Mayor Joseph Rocha, Azusa leaders, APU community members, and local church pastors under one belief: the power of prayer. Attendees took part in times of prayer, worshipped through music, and listened to messages from Mayor Rocha and Bruce Baloian, Ph.D., APU professor of biblical studies.
Behind the Books: APU Libraries Go Online

Azusa Pacific University Libraries introduced an exciting software upgrade with the addition of powerful online self-service features. This update will improve catalog searching functionality and will give APU students, faculty, and staff the ability to access personal library accounts online, renew checked-out items, save catalog searches, rate and review books, view library fines, and subscribe to RSS feeds of library account activity.
