Russell Duke, PhD, began his career by teaching Bible and music at the high school level for four years. He then became a pastor to a congregation in Topeka, Kansas, before working in church administration for the Worldwide Church of God (WCG, name since changed​ to Grace Communion International). After pastoring in Missouri for six years, Russell moved to the university classroom, teaching music, communication, and theology courses at Azusa Pacific University. He has coordinated an educational center for WCG youth, taught an array of General Education courses, and served on the General Education Council.
