Azusa Pacific University’s Department of Theater Arts presents Joseph Hanreddy and J.R. Sullivan’s production of Jane Austin’s classic novel, Pride and Prejudice. The show runs from February 13-22 with Friday and Saturday performances at 7:30 p.m., as well as Saturday matinee shows on February 15 and 22 at 2 p.m. The production takes place in the Warehouse Theater, located on APU’s West Campus, at 701 E. Foothill Blvd. in Azusa. Free parking is available. General admission tickets cost $22, with discounted tickets for senior citizens, children, students, and alumni. For tickets, call the Felix Event Center Box Office at (626) 815-5494 or order them online. Purchasing tickets in advance is highly recommended.
Critics have praised Hanreddy and Sullivan’s adaptation for its ability to honor Austin’s original work while offering a compelling stage experience where wit, romance, and social intrigue take center stage. Audiences will witness the unforgettable chemistry between the spirited Elizabeth Bennet and the enigmatic Mr. Darcy as they navigate the complexities of love and social expectations in Regency England. Join the cast for a night of dazzling ballrooms, sharp-tongued repartee, and an enduring quest for love through one of literature’s most cherished romances.
Pride and Prejudice is directed by Katie Chidester, marking her debut at Azusa Pacific University. A seasoned director with extensive experience across Southern California’s theater scene, Katies brings a fresh perspective to this timeless tale. Her directing experience includes Regional: Beautiful Star (Triad Stage, NC), Les Liaisons Dangereuses (UNCG), Matinicus: The Story of Abigail Burgess (World Premiere, OCTheatre Guild Award nominated Best Play, Best Director), Tiny Beautiful Things (Chance Theater), and Sense and Sensibility.
“Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice has long been cherished as a brilliant exploration of love, class, and society. It has been adapted numerous times in various forms, but at its core, I believe this is a story about people—their desires, their misjudgments, their pride, and their prejudices,” said Chidester. “As we step into the world of the Bennet family and their romantic entanglements, the production team, performers, and I honor Austen’s wit and the depth of her characters while making them resonate with a contemporary audience.”
APU’s plays and musicals are produced through a program of rigorous training. The Department of Theater Arts prepares outstanding, innovative, and influential artists in an ever-growing and multi-faceted performing arts profession. The department is nationally ranked BFA in Acting for The Stage and Screen program.
