APU Hosts 37th Night of Champions
October 30, 2024
Azusa Pacific University is excited to bring back the 37th Night of Champions on November 9. This event draws youth from across Southern California to hear inspiring messages from renowned athletes and artists who will also share the Gospel.
“Night of Champions is one APU’s signature events because the cornerstones (Christ, scholarship, community, and service) come together as our campus gathers to offer an engaging event to our neighbors in Southern California,” said Matthew Browning, EdD, director of commuter life and co-coordinator of this event. “The hope of the Gospel is shared in a clear and compelling way.”
Tickets can be purchased online. They are $12 until October 31; after that, they will be $15. Night of Champions starts at 4 p.m. at Dillon Recreation Complex on APU’s East Campus, located at 901 E Alosta Ave, Azusa, CA, 91207, where participants can enjoy an In-N-Out meal and engage in fellowship while exploring bounce houses. At 6 p.m., the indoor program will begin, featuring APU’s chapel band, and four speakers, including:
Alexander James—a spoken word poet and youth minister at First Baptist Missionary Church. He speaks at many universities and ministries sharing his thoughtful insights about Christ through a poetic lens.
Jack Grogger—chaplain for the Los Angeles Angels and Anaheim Ducks. He looks forward to connecting with local youth to inspire them to pursue Christ in all they do.
Brenda Martinez—an Olympic silver medalist and world champion in track and field. Her story is one of resilience, persistence, and dedication. She is sure to inspire all who hear her speak.
Trenten Merrill ’14— a Paralympic silver medalist, world champion in track and field, and model for brands including Nike, Lululemon, and Tommy Hilfiger. As a public speaker, he shares his story with youth across Southern California to inspire and motivate them to keep working toward their goals.
Azusa Pacific University, a top Christian higher education institution on the West Coast, equips students to become compassionate leaders who impact the world for Christ. APU offers 66 bachelor’s degrees, 40 master’s degrees, 32 certificates and credentials, and 9 doctoral programs to more than 6,500 students at the university’s main campus in Azusa, several regional locations across Southern California, and online.
