Allied Health Major
The Allied Health major prepares students for a career or further graduate study in a broad range of allied health fields by focusing on scientific knowledge in the subject areas of biology, anatomy, physiology, and associated scientific disciplines.
Applied Mathematics Major
Applied mathematics majors learn to solve problems from a variety of disciplines by developing mathematical models, applying computational algorithms, and analyzing results. Students choose from four concentrations: applied mathematics, applied mathematics: actuarial science (What does an actuary do?), applied mathematics: computer science, and applied mathematics: physics.
This program offers the following areas of study: Standard Applied Mathematics Track, Actuarial Science, Computer Science, Physics, and Statistics and Data Science.
Applied Statistics and Data Science, MS
The applied statistics and data science master’s degree prepares students to become leaders in rapidly growing fields involving data analysis. Students may choose an emphasis in biostatistics or business analytics, as well as choose a part-time or full-time format.

Biochemistry Major
Biochemistry majors gain knowledge in biology and chemistry and apply theories, problem-solving techniques, laboratory applications, and instrumentation procedures to better understand biochemical principles and living systems. This program offers the following areas of study: Pre-Health Professions and Research.

Biological Sciences Major
Biological science majors acquire foundational knowledge of core biology topics and apply the scientific method, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills to gain a deeper understanding of living organisms.
This program offers the following areas of study: Biological Systems, Ecological, and Cellular and Molecular.
Biology Minor
Biology minors develop a solid foundation in general biology, cell biology, biology of microorganisms, and general chemistry, and take the opportunity to explore other biology subfields such as neurobiology, genetics, molecular biology, and more.
Biotechnology, MS
The master’s in biotechnology program prepares students for success in biotechnology careers through coursework and training in areas such as molecular biology, pharmacology of pharmaceutics and biopharmaceutics, bioinformatics, industrial statistics, project management, biotech business ethics, and more.
Certificate in TEFL (on campus and online)
APU’s Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) certificate suits students who would like to receive the basic qualifications needed to teach in a multicultural setting.

Certificate in TESOL (on campus and online)
The Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) gives post-baccalaureate students specialized skills in TESOL. The certificate is ideal for supplementing and enhancing traditional ministry (e.g., translation, literacy, and friendship evangelism) within multicultural or cross-cultural environments.

Chemistry Majors
Chemistry majors learn to apply chemical knowledge, theories, mathematical problem-solving methods, laboratory techniques, and instrumental analysis to better understand the properties and reactivity of matter as well as practical applications of chemical reactivity.
Chemistry Minor
Chemistry minors are equipped with a solid foundation in general and organic chemistry, with the opportunity to explore advanced chemistry courses that provide in-depth instruction on complex chemical concepts and hands-on laboratory experience. This minor is an especially valuable addition to computer science, engineering, mathematics, and physics majors.
Computer Information Systems Major
The Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems (CIS) provides a foundation for students planning a career in the analysis, design, and implementation of information systems.
Computer Information Systems Minor
Acquire the computer applications skills that support information technology in business systems. Together with a major in the sciences, business, or another discipline, the computer information systems minor can open pathways to careers in a wide range of fields.
Computer Science Major
The bachelor’s degree in computer science prepares students for graduate work in computer science and for careers in fields such as computer programming and software engineering.
Computer Science Minor
Become skilled in the basics of computer science, and pair this minor with a major in the sciences, business, or another discipline for an extra advantage in competitive job markets.
Creative Writing Minor
Develop your writing for publication in multiple genres, learning to use effective and appropriate voice and how to argue persuasively.
Data Science Minor
The minor in data science comprises a core introductory sequence in statistics, computer science, data ethics, and data visualization, plus three electives chosen from other data-centric and computational courses across departments.
Engineering Major
The engineering major equips students with a solid foundation in engineering principles for a variety of fields including aerospace, agriculture, automotive, business, defense, energy, health care, and telecommunications.
This program offers the following areas of study: Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Systems Engineering.
English Major
English students develop critical-thinking skills from extensive study of the world’s literature to further their ability to read, write, and analyze well.

English Minor
Gain a solid foundation in the discipline and customize your slate of upper-division electives to suit your needs and interests—in literature, creative writing, or professional writing.
Environmental Studies Minor
Acquire the tools and experiences necessary for understanding and addressing the causes and consequences of the unprecedented environmental challenges in the United States and around the world.
Ethnic Studies Minor
Enhance your understanding of the experiences of U.S. immigrant populations and communities of color, along with your sensitivity to issues of race, ethnicity, and social class.
History Major
The history major provides students with a solid foundation in American and world history, geography, research, and writing, while also allowing students to study their preferred time periods, regions, and historical themes. Upon graduation, students are equipped for numerous career paths that call for reasoning, the ability to analyze complex problems, well-developed writing skills, and familiarity with a variety of cultures.
History Minor
Learn about the triumphs and tragedies of humankind through studies in American, European, and world history, as you prepare to make solid decisions that are grounded in the human experience.
Humanities Minor
Study and discuss the great works of literature, philosophy, art, music, science, and theology.
Integrated Bachelor’s and Teaching Credential
APU’s undergraduate teacher preparation program allows you to earn both a bachelor’s degree and preliminary K-12 California teaching credential in just four years, including one or two summers.
This program offers the following areas of study: Allied Health, Liberal Studies, and Math.
Mathematics Majors
The mathematics major is an ideal preparation for a variety of analytical careers. Mathematics majors often choose to minor in physics, computer science, finance, economics, business management, or some other discipline. Students who plan to teach at the secondary level should choose the secondary math education track, which waives the CSET exam.
This program offers the following areas of study: General Mathematics and Secondary Math Education.
Mathematics Minor
Develop your quantitative and analytical thinking skills, which can be used in a broad range of career and life pursuits. For students with AP Calculus credit, the minor requires just 12-16 units instead of the usual 19.
Physics Major
Physics majors develop analytical skills and problem-solving abilities that prepare them for a wide variety of technical careers or further studies in physics, engineering, materials science, geophysics, biophysics, electronics, chemistry, or aerospace, or for a physics teaching career. Physics majors can earn a mathematics minor by taking just one additional math course.
This program offers the following areas of study: General Physics and Physics Secondary Education.
Physics Minor
Learn the fundamentals of matter and energy and how to solve complex problems using conceptual analysis and mathematical techniques. This minor is ideal for students majoring in mathematics, engineering, computer science, chemistry, or biology.
Political Science Major
The political science major furnishes students with a solid foundation in American government, politics, history, and classical and modern political thought, preparing them to take an informed, intelligent, and leading role in the affairs of their community, country, and world. Upon graduation, students enter careers in government, research, policy, law, military, and law enforcement.
Political Science Minor
Learn about classical and modern political thought, American politics, and international relations as you prepare to become an advocate for truth and justice in your community and beyond.
Pre-PT/OT Track
APU’s Prephysical Therapy/Preoccupational Therapy Track prepares students with the science and other prerequisite coursework necessary for success as a doctor of physical therapy (DPT) or occupational therapist.
Prelaw Minor
Become versed in political science, criminal law, constitutional law, and political philosophy as you prepare for the rigors of law school.
Premedical/Predental Track
APU’s premedical/predental track prepares students with the science and other prerequisite coursework necessary for success in medical and dental programs.
Social Science Major
The social science major supplies students with an integrated study of the social sciences—history, political science, geography, economics, sociology, and psychology—which helps them develop analytical skills, comparative perspectives, critical judgment, and a knowledge base about the world. Upon graduation, students will have completed a subject-matter program in social science approved the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing, allowing them to bypass the CSET exam and begin pursuing teaching at the high school or junior high school level.
Sociology Major
Sociology students study a broad range of social behaviors from intimate family to hostile mob, from crime to religion, and from the divisions of race and social class to the shared beliefs of a common culture.
Sociology Minor
Equip yourself with a broader understanding of human social behaviors, including the influence of race, class, and gender, and the role of social institutions such as family, religion, and government.
Spanish Major
The Spanish major prepares students to thrive in the Spanish-speaking world, equipping them with language skills, cultural knowledge, understanding of current events, and direct experience living and working abroad.
Spanish Minor
Learn the fundamental skills for thriving in the Spanish-speaking world: a solid grasp of the language, and an introduction to the culture and history.
Statistics Minor
Learn fundamental mathematical methods and problem-solving strategies, and how to communicate mathematical ideas in speech and writing. Students with any major or minor are eligible to earn the statistics minor—in particular, a student is permitted to earn the statistics minor and the mathematics minor.
TESOL Minor
In APU’s Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) minor, you will learn how to teach English as a second language in public adult schools, private language schools, and developing countries. This program is especially suited to students majoring in English, Spanish, or liberal studies (education), but is open to all students.
Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, MA (on campus and online)
APU’s Master of Arts in TESOL provides comprehensive preparation in English language teaching for those seeking careers in U.S.-based institutions or schools around the world. Students develop a theoretical foundation along with practical preparation for diverse teaching scenarios and environments. The program is offered on-campus in Azusa and online.
