Alumni Spotlight: Megan Webb ('05)
May 09, 2017
By Jenelle Dhing
Megan Webb says she has always been indecisive. While in the Honors Program at APU,
she could not decide between politics and business, so she pursued a B.A. in Political
Science and a B.S. in International Business. As a junior, she studied abroad in western
Europe with the International Business Institute. She also pursued her political side
by participating in CCCU’s American Studies Program in Washington, D.C., where she
interned for then-Congressman, now-Vice President Mike Pence.
After graduating from APU, she moved to Antigua, Guatemala to work on her Spanish
language skills. Back in the U.S., she worked at a Christian credit union in Orange
County, where she put her passion for service to use assisting churches and missionaries
with their banking needs.
As Megan considered a graduate degree, she still could not decide between politics
and business. So, she attended Thunderbird School of Global Management in Arizona
where she could pursue a master’s degree that combined policy and business. While
at Thunderbird, she studied the intersection of the public and private sectors in
achieving the aims of international development, in part through a seminar in South
Africa.
It was during her graduate program that Megan decided to pursue a law degree. She
attended Notre Dame Law School in Indiana, where she continued her interest in international
development from a legal perspective, traveling to South Korea for an internship and
to Ghana as part of a strategy project with Catholic Relief Services.
Since law school, Megan has been practicing at Jones Day, an international law firm,
in the Health Care and Life Sciences group out of the downtown Los Angeles office.
Megan’s goal is to combine her passion for service with her legal skills to help advance
the rule of law in developing countries, as one step on the path toward economic development.
Megan offers the following advice to undergraduates: "Indecisiveness aside, I understand
the desire as an Honors College student to plan out your future meticulously. But
don’t forget that there are great adventures to be had when you let your plan go and
let God lead. As Proverbs 16:9 says, 'The mind of man plans his way, but the Lord
directs his steps.'"
