Accept/Decline Aid

After reviewing your Financial Aid Offer Letter, one of the next steps is to accept or decline your offers for the aid year. Most grants, scholarships, and discounts—aid that does not have to be repaid—are automatically accepted on your behalf. However, any loans you were offered will require an action on your part. To accept the financial aid offered, please follow these steps.

  1. Log in to your dashboard at home.apu.edu
  2. Select the “Financials” option in the menu.
  3. Select “Accept/Decline Awards.”
  4. Using the dropdown menu for “Financial Aid Year,” select the current year (i.e., 2021-22).
  5. Under any offered loan options, input the amount that works for you.

Please Note: All loan offers must be accepted at least one week before the end of the term.

Once you accept your financial aid, it will be reflected in your account. To view the aid you accepted and the date it is set to disburse:

  1. Select the “Financials” option in the menu.
  2. Select “View Financial Aid.”

Loans and grants typically disburse to your student account prior to the start of each term, while scholarships and discounts typically disburse the day after the session’s add/drop period ends. If this date has come and you have not received your aid, it may be due to one of these common reasons:

  • Your enrollment status does not match the enrollment status your aid is based on.
  • You are not making Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP).
  • You have not completed all requirements to be eligible for aid.
  • Your aid has disbursed, but was not larger than your owing balance.
  • If none of these reasons apply to you, please contact us.

Authorization to Use Title IV Aid for Other Charges

You can now give permission to have your Title IV aid cover additional charges on your account. For more information, please read carefully through the information below.

What types of Title IV aid can apply to my student account?

  • Federal Pell Grant
  • Federal TEACH Grant
  • Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant (SEOG)
  • Direct Loans - Subsidized and Unsubsidized
  • PLUS Loan – Grad PLUS and Parent PLUS

How is Title IV aid applied to my account?

The Department of Education has specified that Title IV financial aid funds can only be automatically applied to a select list of allowable charges. Other charges can only be paid for by Title IV funds if authorization is given by the student.

Allowable Charges

  • Tuition and Course Fees
  • Mandatory Fees
  • Housing and Food

Other Charges Allowable with Student Permission

  • Parking Permits
  • Health Center charges
  • Health Insurance
  • Slingshot (textbook charges)

What does granting authorization for other charges do?

If you grant authorization your Title IV aid will now automatically be applied to the other charges listed above.

What happens if I do not grant authorization?

If you do not grant authorization your aid will continue to be applied to your account as it always has been, only covering allowable charges. Keep in mind if you receive a refund, you will still be responsible for paying the other charges. Receiving a refund does not mean there are no outstanding charges on your account.

What is the benefit of granting the authorization?

The benefit of granting authorization is that your Title IV aid will automatically be applied to all of the allowable and other charges listed above. In some cases, this will mean if you get a refund, you will not have to send any of it back to pay for other charges. Keep in mind, there may still be some charges on your account that Title IV aid can never cover, fines for example. You will still need to be responsible for paying those charges. However, granting authorization will reduce the number of outstanding charges on your account if there is enough Title IV aid to cover them.

How do I give APU authorization to apply my Title IV funds to other charges?
