Biography

Shirley Jean, Ph.D., began her career at Azusa Pacific University as a student in 2010. Her dissertation research includes incorporating a mobility program to increase the functionality of students with orthopedic impairments, in order to increase their independence in the areas of transitioning, bearing weight, and peer interaction. Jean taught middle school physical education for two years and was the chair of the physical education department during that time. She has been teaching adapted physical education for seven years. She is passionate about physical activity and mobility for students with orthopedic impairments, which led to her earning a $45,000 innovation grant to start the Mobility Opportunities Via Education (MOVE) program within the school district. During her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and twin boys.
