Lori Silao has a background in neonatal nursing and has been a board-certified neonatal nurse practitioner since 1994. Having earned a PhD in education with a focus in nursing, she is committed to the advancement of nursing education. Her goal is to improve how nurses teach, and to foster student learning. Lori's doctoral work was focused on improving the mentoring process for new educators, and linking clinical adjunct faculty strongly to the parent academic center. Dr. Silao has taught for APU since 2007 as an adjunct faculty member, and then became a full-time assistant professor in 2015. Dr. Silao is currently the chair for the RN to BSN program, the bridge to BSN program, and the integrative enrollment pathway. Her favorite classes to teach are pathophysiology and nursing theory. Currently, Dr. Silao teaches in the RN-BSN program teaching both pathophysiology and improving patient outcomes courses, and frequently teaches for the LVN-BSN program teaching professional concepts and theoretical frameworks for nursing, as well as writing 2. Teaching has become Dr. Silao's passion and she is continually seeking new ways to improve learning for her students.
