Lynda Reed, DNP, RN, FNP-C, has focused her efforts as a nurse practitioner on chronic illness management and negotiating self-care behaviors with patients. Her doctoral research on building efficacy to resist overeating in Hispanic women enrolled in a walking program was the foundation for improving her own practice outcomes in the community health centers where she worked. In 2012, Reed began teaching full-time at Azusa Pacific University. She was given the opportunity to teach chronic disease management from a nursing perspective, integrating the biomedical and biopsychosocial models into a comprehensive and longitudinal plan of care. As program director, she instituted clinical simulation and designed the Adult-gerontology curriculum.
APU's graduates are the future of nursing in a dynamic healthcare environment. Nurse practitioners from APU are prepared to help patients achieve health and wellness in independent and collaborative practice models. As a community member, she continues to serve on hospital and community health center boards and committees so that she can be aware of the needs of patients and providers.
