Azusa Pacific University is the site of Azusa Unified School District's (AUSD) Gifted And Talented Education (G.A.T.E.) summer program.

One hundred fourth and fifth grade students are taking five summer classes in English, math, social studies, art, and science.

Approximately 20 high school students are participating this summer as teacher's aides for the G.A.T.E. program. In return for this, APU is providing these students with a college-level science course that will be transferable to any major university.

"I am hoping that this partnership will continue," said Carren Acevedo, director of G.A.T.E. "We hope to be able to add more classes for the high schoolers and extend the program to junior high students as well."
