Finding a Job after College: 6 Resources for APU Graduates

by Stephanie Thurrott

When you finish your studies at Azusa Pacific University, you don’t just walk across the stage at graduation, pick up your diploma, and say goodbye forever. APU puts almost as much attention on your success after school as it does during your studies, offering ample resources to prepare and support you on your post-graduate career path. Here are six resources to help you with finding a job after college.

1. Career Center

The Center for Career and Community-Engaged Learning should be your go-to stop for moving forward after graduation. There are many reasons to visit the career center. It’s a great place to begin your job search, as more than 6,500 employers post job openings with the career center. You can also book an appointment with an APU career consultant to explore careers, internships, and graduate schools. They can also help you perfect your LinkedIn profile, resume, and cover letter so you stand out to prospective employers.

2. Handshake and APU Connect

Networking is crucial for building any career. You can use the Handshake career network to jumpstart the process, connecting with recruiters, businesses, and organizations for jobs and internships. You can also link up with APU alumni—more than 8,000—in a range of fields. The Handshake Resource Library provides interview tips, resume writing guides, and professional resources.

Through APU Connect, a platform designed exclusively for the APU community, you can expand your professional network by reaching out to former classmates and alumni around the world. When you connect with other APU alumni, you know you’re connecting with someone who likely shares your values and beliefs.

3. Office of Alumni Engagement

Alumni Engagement is your place to turn to stay in touch with APU over the years. Along with professional opportunities, the alumni office schedules events, activities, and reunions so you can be a part of APU no matter what direction your life takes you. You can also network with more than 4,200 other APU alumni in the Alumni Engagement LinkedIn group.

4. Career Fairs

At APU’s annual and seasonal career fairs, you can meet recruiters hiring for jobs and internships in a range of industries. Career fairs are an excellent opportunity to connect with industry professionals, and importantly, put your face—and resume—in front of them. Check the career center for dates and times.

5. Department Job Boards

In addition to the job opportunities listed on Handshake, some APU departments offer job opportunities tailored to specific majors. For example, the Department of Social Work and the Department of Psychology list available positions. Check with your department head or advisor to learn more about finding a job after college in your major.

6. Certification Programs

You may be interested in continuing your education after you earn your bachelor’s degree, thereby increasing your value to companies and organizations. To support this, APU offers certificate programs in:

  • Change Strategies for Consulting
  • Data Analysis and Visualization
  • Digital Marketing and Social Media
  • Foundations of Human Resources
  • Government Budgeting
  • Leadership Development
