Azusa Pacific University has a long standing partnership with Azusa Unified School District (AUSD) through a variety of academic service learning projects that allow college students to connect with and encourage younger students.

Students at Azusa Pacific University are offered a variety of ways to involve themselves in the local community through the Office of Service and Discipleship (OSD) in order to spread the word of God through their actions. Community Meals is one of the many year round Local Engagement programs which the OSD has partnered with for more than five years.

Community Engagement: APU’s Commitment to Service Merits a Carnegie Classification

In 2010, APU’s investment in community service and engagement was recognized with a Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education for Community Engagement. APU is one of only 368 institutions to hold the classification in the United States, and is one of just eight universities in the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities (CCCU) to hold the title.

As the executive director of counseling and wellness, she ensures students have access to mental health care throughout their time at APU.

William Whitney, PhD, didn’t initially envision a career in psychology, but when he realized that his interests in theology tied well with learning about human behavior, he felt God calling him toward a different pursuit. As a psychology professor at APU, Whitney guides students to lovingly and ethically care for others the way Jesus did.

Abigail Tam is a junior nursing and honors humanities major with a heart for serving the Lord and embracing diversity. Her experience spending her teenage years in Lebanon doing missionary work with her family instilled a desire to minister to others through her love for nursing. Being in honors allows Tam to engage in rich discussions and learn more about human nature.

APU Receives $900,000 Research Grant to Help K-12 Decision Makers

Azusa Pacific University received a $900,000 grant in partnership with Northwestern University and the University of Chicago from the U.S. Department of Education’s Institute of Education Sciences (IES) with Kaitlyn G. Fitzgerald, PhD, assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science, Engineering, Math, Physics, and Statistics, as a co-principal investigator.
