Applied mathematics majors learn to solve problems from a variety of disciplines by developing mathematical models, applying computational algorithms, and analyzing results. Students choose from four concentrations: applied mathematics, applied mathematics: actuarial science (What does an actuary do?), applied mathematics: computer science, and applied mathematics: physics.
This program offers the following areas of study: Standard Applied Mathematics Track, Actuarial Science, Computer Science, Physics, and Statistics and Data Science.
Applied Statistics and Data Science, MS
The applied statistics and data science master’s degree prepares students to become leaders in rapidly growing fields involving data analysis. Students may choose an emphasis in biostatistics or business analytics, as well as choose a part-time or full-time format.
This program offers the following areas of study: Biostatistics and Business Analytics.
Computer Information Systems Major
The Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems (CIS) provides a foundation for students planning a career in the analysis, design, and implementation of information systems.Computer Information Systems Minor
Acquire the computer applications skills that support information technology in business systems. Together with a major in the sciences, business, or another discipline, the computer information systems minor can open pathways to careers in a wide range of fields.Computer Science Major
The bachelor’s degree in computer science prepares students for graduate work in computer science and for careers in fields such as computer programming and software engineering.Computer Science Minor
Become skilled in the basics of computer science, and pair this minor with a major in the sciences, business, or another discipline for an extra advantage in competitive job markets.Data Science Minor
The minor in data science comprises a core introductory sequence in statistics, computer science, data ethics, and data visualization, plus three electives chosen from other data-centric and computational courses across departments.
Engineering Major
The engineering major equips students with a solid foundation in engineering principles for a variety of fields including aerospace, agriculture, automotive, business, defense, energy, health care, and telecommunications.
This program offers the following areas of study: Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Systems Engineering.
Mathematics Majors
The mathematics major is an ideal preparation for a variety of analytical careers. Mathematics majors often choose to minor in physics, computer science, finance, economics, business management, or some other discipline. Students who plan to teach at the secondary level should choose the secondary math education track, which waives the CSET exam.
This program offers the following areas of study: General Mathematics and Secondary Math Education.
Mathematics Minor
Develop your quantitative and analytical thinking skills, which can be used in a broad range of career and life pursuits. For students with AP Calculus credit, the minor requires just 12-16 units instead of the usual 19.
Physics Major
Physics majors develop analytical skills and problem-solving abilities that prepare them for a wide variety of technical careers or further studies in physics, engineering, materials science, geophysics, biophysics, electronics, chemistry, or aerospace, or for a physics teaching career. Physics majors can earn a mathematics minor by taking just one additional math course.
This program offers the following areas of study: General Physics and Physics Secondary Education.
Physics Minor
Learn the fundamentals of matter and energy and how to solve complex problems using conceptual analysis and mathematical techniques. This minor is ideal for students majoring in mathematics, engineering, computer science, chemistry, or biology.
Statistics Minor
Learn fundamental mathematical methods and problem-solving strategies, and how to communicate mathematical ideas in speech and writing. Students with any major or minor are eligible to earn the statistics minor—in particular, a student is permitted to earn the statistics minor and the mathematics minor.
