Segerstrom Science Center, Suite 200Each year, the Department of Biology and Chemistry offers a limited number of fellowships to select undergraduates to participate in the Student-To-Scholar (S2S) program involving laboratory research with a faculty-mentor.
The S2S program immerses students in hands-on research across a wide variety of topics, such as using mass spectrometry to study the metabolism of efavirenz (an anti-HIV drug), or determining the effect of pollution on the growth and function of native southern California plant species. Working alongside expert faculty, students gain valuable lab/field experience as they work with cutting edge research equipment and techniques. Students’ projects typically culminate in the opportunity to present their work at local, regional, and national conferences, distinguishing them as excellent candidates for graduate programs at prestigious schools around the country. The S2S research program is one of the key ways through which APU is raising up the next generation of scientists, doctors, and teachers.
