Associate Professor, Department of Psychology

William Whitney, PhD, joined the faculty at Azusa Pacific in 2014. His areas of interest include the integration of psychology and religion/theology, positive human development, culture and diversity, and group processes / psychotherapy. His most recent book, Theology for Psychology and Counseling (Baker Academic, 2022; co-authored with Kutter Callaway) demonstrates how core tenets and principles from Christian theology inform clinical practice and research within psychology. His research has received funding from the John Templeton Foundation and the Louisville Institute. William is a licensed marriage and family therapist (MFT#90691) with a small private practice in Pasadena, California. He is past president of the Group Psychotherapy Association of Los Angeles (GPALA).
