Pin Fei Tang, MM, graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and from the Peabody Music Conservatory. During her years of study, she won first prize in the Rolland String Competition. After graduating from Peabody, she got into the doctoral program at the University of Maryland studying with professor Evelyn Elsing and the Guarneri String Quartet. Tang has been teaching cello and chamber music at La Sierra University since 1995 and Cal State Los Angeles since 2015. She is actively involved in stage performance for chamber music and solo performances. Tang has frequently been invited to judge competitions and teach in music festivals such as the American String Teachers Association Competition; the 6th China National Cello Competition in Beijing, China; CMTANC International Youth Music Competition in San Jose; the Schoenfeld International String Competition in Hong Kong; Steinway Midsummer Music Festival; the International String Music Summer Festival in Vancouver, Canada; and the Montecito International Music Festival in Santa Barbara. Many graduates from her studio have obtained positions with professional orchestras and on the faculty of music conservatories. Tang’s students have won cello solo and chamber music competitions, including the American Protégé International Music Talent Competition, Schoenfeld International String Competition, Enkor International Music Competition, and more. Tang won the Excellent Teachers Award at the American Protégé International Music Competition at Carnegie Hall in 2013 and the Distinguished Teachers Award at the 1st Schoenfeld International String Competition in Hong Kong in 2013.
