Christopher B. Newman, PhD, focuses his research primarily on outcomes, inequities, and undergraduate student experiences in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Newman has served as a consultant to the National Science Foundation’s Colloquy on Minority Males and has presented his work at the American Educational Research Association, the Association for the Study of Higher Education, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science, among other national and international prestigious professional meetings. Newman is co-editor of the volume Students of Color in STEM (part of the New Directions for Institutional Research series; Wiley Periodicals, Inc., 2010). He is working on a project, in collaboration with the National Society of Black Physicists, focusing on African American workforce development in physics and astronomy. He earned several awards while a faculty member at the University of San Diego, including an Outstanding Teaching Award (2013) and the Faculty Trailblazer award for mentorship and support of African American students (2017).
