About APU

Azusa Pacific is a comprehensive, evangelical Christian university located near Los Angeles in Southern California and built on Four Cornerstones: Christ, Scholarship, Community, and Service. APU offers 70 bachelor’s degrees, 44 master’s degrees, 25 certificates, 8 credentials, and 9 doctoral programs to more than 7,000 students at the university’s main campus in Azusa, seven regional locations, and online. A member of the Council for Christian Colleges & Universities, and recognized among the nation’s top schools, APU remains committed to God First and Christ-centered academic excellence.

Recognition

U.S. News & World Report’s America’s Best Colleges 2024 edition named Azusa Pacific to its list of top national universities and several other significant lists, including Top Performers on Social Mobility, Best Undergraduate Engineering Programs, and Best BSN Programs, and also included APU among the top graduate programs in social work and clinical psychology. The Princeton Review designated APU as 1 of 79 institutions in the “Best West” section of its 2024 Best Colleges guide. APU’s School of Nursing was named a top nursing school in California for 2024 by College Factual and Niche. APU is a top-100 degree producer according to Diverse: Issues In Higher Education, and is a designated Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI). Azusa Pacific is also a Military Friendly School and Yellow Ribbon University, serving more than 340 military-connected students and families, and is classified by the Carnegie Foundation as an R2 Doctoral Research University.

The school’s first graduating class had 12 people. Today, APU has an enrollment of more than 6,600 students.

A $650,000 National Science Foundation STEM grant enables APU to recruit, retain, and graduate high-achieving, low-income, first-generation students called to make a difference as computer scientists, engineers, mathematicians, and physicists.

Committed to Christ-centered academic excellence, Azusa Pacific University is classified by the Carnegie Foundation as an R2 Doctoral/Research University.

Each APU undergraduate student contributes 15 to 25 hours of community service per semester, resulting in more than 165,000 hours of service each year.

Azusa Pacific University ranks in the top 25 universities nationwide based on alumni ratings, according to a study published in the Journal of Consumer Affairs and featured by Forbes. Listed at number 22, APU joins elite universities, including Harvard, Princeton, and Massachusetts Institute of Technology. APU is 1 of only 2 Christian universities to make the list.

Since becoming a full-time NCAA D2 member in fall 2014, the Cougars have posted six top-20 finishes in the Directors’ Cup, including a No. 5 finish in 2021-22, and have hosted 12 NCAA championship tournaments.

APU is one of seven universities in California named a Nursing College of Distinction for 2020-21.

APU’s Department of Theater Arts produces four faculty-directed theater productions annually, and several smaller, student-directed productions.

The Departments of Art and Design have four on-campus galleries that exhibit student, faculty, and visiting artist pieces throughout the year.

APU’s School of Music includes 20 musical ensembles, and sponsors student recitals, faculty recitals, and many guest artist concert events annually.
