Artist’s Transformation: The leap from photo-realistic painting to minimalist mark-making is a wide one, but Lucinda Chalmers, MFA ’14, crossed that divide as she sought to simplify and refocus her art. During her time in the MFA program, Chalmers said she has moved away from realistic styles of painting or photography and towards an exploration of line and form. “I had to break out of everything I thought I knew or wanted to achieve in fine art,” said Chalmers. “The environment at APU is so artistically nurturing as we are pushed to grow in our work and as individuals.”
