Alisa Barsegyan, MFA ’12
Residence: Glendale, California
Profession: Teaching assistant, artist
Medium: Oil, watercolor
Artist’s Transformation: Alisa Barsegyan came to APU with a desire to focus exclusively on her passion for art. Her work in watercolor, oil, and mixed media touches on themes of beauty and the portrayal of women, including cultural influences and stereotypes. Barsegyan said the MFA emphasis on studio activity and the low-residency format allow artists to set their own goals and seek expert guidance when it’s needed. “You hear so many different perspectives of professors, visiting artists, and those in your cohort,” she said. “You get to unpack all of that and apply it to your work in your own way.”
