Student Health Center

The Student Health Center provides many services for a nominal fee to students of the APU community, including:

Fees¹ are placed directly on student accounts unless the student opts to pay for them at the time of service. Most fees are 100 percent reimbursable by insurance unless it is an HMO or Kaiser.

Office Visits: No charge

Casting: $30–$50 (depending on supplies used)

Wart freezing: $20/visit

Biopsy and suturing: $50 for supplies utilized plus pathology cost

Lab tests: minimal charge; varies by specific tests

No-shows and late cancellations (less than one hour before the scheduled appointment time) will be assessed a $10 fee.

Immunizations: Visit the Travel Immunizations page for a full price list of immunizations offered.

Fees for any services may be paid by either placing them on the student’s account, or paying by cash, check (payable to APU), credit or debit. All fees will be put on the student’s account at the end of the business day if not paid by other means.

HEERF Fund Reporting Disclosure (March 31, 2023)

On March 11, 2021, Congress passed the American Rescue Plan (ARP), which included additional COVID-19 relief for institutions of higher education. This new COVID stimulus bill included $40 billion for higher education institutions and students. Of this funding, Azusa Pacific University was allotted $17 million, $8.58 million of which to be used for direct student assistance grants.

APU signed and returned the Certification and Agreement form for the ARP acts within the required timeframe with the intention of utilizing a total of $8.58 million of the funds from ARP for student assistance, as is required by the legislation.

We estimate that 18,071 students are eligible for ARP funds based on federal eligibility guidelines.

As of March 31, 2023, APU has distributed all $8.58 million of the $8.58 million in ARP funding. This funding was distributed according to the following methodology:

• An immediate allocation of $2 million was prioritized for students with the highest need. High-need students were identified as students who had received a disbursement of PELL, Cal Grant, or the APU Valentine fund within the 2020-21 year. A total of 1,994 students who met this criteria received an immediate award of $1,000 each.

• After prioritizing the highest-need students, a second allocation of $3.4 million was disbursed between July 1, 2021, and September 30, 2021, to students who were enrolled since the time of the emergency declaration and had owing balances resulting from the COVID disruption. Students whose APU records indicated having owing balances were contacted via email and given the opportunity to complete a simple form indicating whether their owing balance was attributable to COVID disruption. In this allocation, 1,285 students were awarded amounts varying from $100-$10,000 depending on the size of their owing balance. Awarded students were given the option of having the amount applied to any owing balance on their account; however, awards and award amounts were not made contingent upon students electing to apply funds to any balances.

• An additional allocation of $2.95 million was awarded between October 1, 2021, and December 31, 2021, for students who were enrolled since the time of the emergency declaration and had owing balances resulting from the COVID disruption. Students whose APU records indicated having owing balances were contacted via email and given the opportunity to complete a simple form indicating whether their owing balance was attributable to COVID disruption. In this allocation, 1,106 students were awarded with amounts from $100-$10,000 depending on the size of their owing balance. Awarded students were given the option of having the amount applied to any owing balance on their account; however, awards and award amounts were not made contingent upon students electing to apply funds to any balances.

• Between January 1, 2022, and February 23, 2023, no ARP funds were awarded.

Beginning on 2/24/2023, APU students were given the opportunity of applying for the remaining $255,000 in HEERF student funds from the federal government. Students who were enrolled at APU during the COVID-19 emergency and who had owing balances are encouraged to apply for a HEERF/COVID-19 Fund Relief Grant by completing an application and indicating whether their owing balance is attributable to COVID-19 disruption. In this allocation, 54 students were awarded with amounts from $100-$10,000 depending on the size of their owing balance. Awarded students were given the option of having the amount applied to any eligible owing balance on their account, but awards and award amounts are not contingent upon students electing to apply funds to any balances.

As of 3/10/2023, all HEERF Funds had been expended by APU.

Azusa Pacific University was allotted $8.8 million through the CRRSA Act, of which $2.7 million was to be used for direct student assistance grants. Subsequently, on March 11, 2021, Congress passed the American Rescue Plan (ARP) which included additional COVID-19 relief for institutions of higher education. This new COVID stimulus bill included $40 billion, for higher education institutions and students. Of this funding, Azusa Pacific University was allotted $17 million, $8.58 million of which to be used for direct student assistance grants.

APU signed and returned the Certification and Agreement form for the CRRSA and ARP acts within the required timeframe with the intention of utilizing a total of $2.77 million of the funds from CRRSA and $8.58 million of the funds from ARP for student assistance, as is required by the legislation.

We estimate that 13,274 students are eligible for either or both ARP and CRSSA funds based on federal eligibility guidelines.

As of September 30, 2021, APU has distributed all of the allotted $2.77 million CRRSA student portion funds to 2,774 students. Awarded students were given the option of having the amount applied to any owing balance on their account; however, awards were not made contingent upon students electing to apply funds to any balances.

Additionally, APU has distributed $5.4 million of the $8.5 million in ARP funding. This funding was been distributed according to the following methodology:

1. An immediate allocation of $2 million was prioritized for students with the highest need. • Selected students were enrolled in the Spring 2021 term.
• Students must have an official FAFSA on file for the 2020-21 year and demonstrate need as defined by “cost of attendance” minus “EFC” of or below $36,824 to qualify for a CAA award.
• Awards were allocated to students to cover components of their cost of attendance.
• A $1,000 award was granted to all students who were determined eligible.

Using the above methodology, 2,774 students were awarded a grant under the CRSSA program. Awarded students were given the option of having the amount applied to any owing balance on their account; however, awards were not made contingent upon students electing to apply funds to any balances.

As of this date, APU has not yet made any distributions of the $8.5 million in ARP funding and is in the process of determining an awarding methodology which prioritizes students with the highest need and is in line with federal guidelines.

CARES Act Reporting Disclosure (April 15, 2021)

On March 27, 2020, Congress passed the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, providing roughly $14 billion to institutions of higher education. Azusa Pacific University was allotted $5.4 million through section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act. APU signed and returned the Certification and Agreement form for HEERF funding. Of the $5.4 million, half ($2.7 million) was intended to be used for direct cash grants to students and the other half was allocated to schools to use for institutional support.

As of April 10, 2021, a total of 2,685 students were awarded a total of $2,669,086. As of January 8, 2021, a total of 2,685 students were awarded a total of $2,669.086. Award amounts were determined after analyzing all applications received and determining grant amounts based on student need, the scope of the COVID-19 expenses incurred, and the number of applications received. In order to ensure that funds were widely available to students, award amounts were capped at $2,500.

Additionally, as a Minority Serving Institution (MSI), APU also received a grant of $442,000 under section 18004(a)(2) of the CARES Act. This could be used for either institutional needs or direct students assistance, or a combination of both.

In the initial round of disbursements, 2,339 students were awarded a total of $1,984,097. Award amounts were determined after analyzing all applications received and determining grant amounts based on student need, the scope of the COVID-19 expenses incurred, and the number of applications received. In order to ensure that funds were widely available to students, award amounts were capped at $2,500.

If you feel sick, stay home! Do not go to class or work. Obtain a COVID-19 test. If it is positive, let the Student Health Center (SHC) know via the MyCougar Health Symptom Tracker.

Those who test positive for COVID-19 should isolate for 5 days from symptom onset. If you are a healthcare worker, you must isolate for at least 5 days and obtain a negative COVID-19 test prior to returning to work.

• If you have an exposure and are NOT a healthcare worker, no quarantine is needed. Test anytime on days 3-5 and consider wearing a mask for 10 days. Employees should do the same, but a mask is required for 10 days after the exposure when around others.
