Patricia “Trish” Hanes, PhD, has been with APU’s School of Nursing since 1992. She has been a registered nurse since 1974 and has clinical expertise in critical care nursing and emergency nursing, with additional experience in triage and prehospital care. She has an interest in face-to-face and online curriculum development, program planning, and mentoring, and as a longtime lead teacher of the writing intensive course in the major, she is committed to fostering better student writing and research. Her research interests include adult education, cognition, mentoring, and teaching/facilitative strategies, and she has presented her scholarship in numerous international, national, and regional venues. Hanes’ dissertation involved researching a new construct, composite cognition, as it relates to the teaching/training of military combat nurses. Hanes is a past moderator of the APU Faculty Senate, and is president of the California League for Nursing, an ambassador for the National League for Nursing, and vice president of the Independent California College and University Faculty Association.
