Patricia Esslin, MSN, is eager to teach and connect with her students, and her commitment to the future of nursing is manifested through the teaching of beginning nurses. Esslin strives to dynamically engage the student within the learning process, and her enthusiasm is contagious. She is active in professional nursing organizations—such as the Oncology Nursing Society, Southern California chapter of the American Society for Pain Management Nursing (ASPMN) and Iota Sigma, the local chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International—and encourages her students to do likewise. Esslin was honored at the 2007 ASPMN conference for her leadership of and service to the Southern California chapter of ASPMN, receiving the National Distinguished Service Award. She is the lead instructor for the new medical-surgical Nursing Management Complex course in APU's undergraduate nursing program, teaches clinical for the same course, and also has experience in teaching medical-surgical nursing, as well as restorative nursing.
