Elaine McLemore received her Ph.D. in Twentieth Century U.S. History from Claremont Graduate University. Her work is interested in the relationship between art and historical production, and explores the intersections between photography and political meaning making. Her dissertation "War in Words in Pictures: Photography and the Aestheticization of Politics in Life Magazine", which she is currently revising for publication, earned her a Transdisciplinary Dissertation Award from Claremont.

Elaine believes strongly in putting history into conversation with contemporary art practices and theory. She has ties to the LA art community, and has worked as a researcher at the Los Angeles contemporary art space, Various Small Fires. The gallery is listed as one of the Top 500 galleries in the world by Modern Painters Magazine. She has taught a variety of Art History courses at University of La Verne, Chaffey College, and Azusa Pacific University; and writing courses at Claremont Graduate University, University of California, Los Angeles, and University of California, Berkeley.
