Scholarships and Auditions
Thank you for considering the Department of Theater, Film, and Television in your scholastic career!
Scholarship awards beginning at $1,000 will be granted to a limited number of prospective and current undergraduate students based on need, talent, and ability.
Students who receive a Department of Theater, Film, and Television scholarship are expected to meet the following requirements while a student at APU:
- Take and pass at least one 3-unit theater arts class during the academic year
- Perform in one show per semester
If you are not cast in a show, you will be required to complete a significant technical assignment for that semester. Students who have been awarded technical theater scholarships will be required to tech two shows each semester.
To apply for a Department of Theater, Film, and Television scholarship, you will need to audition. Students currently receiving scholarships will need to re-audition each year in order to retain their scholarship.
For your audition, you should prepare for a five-minute interview and the performance of two of the following:
- A one and a half minute dramatic monologue
- A one and a half minute comedic monologue
- A one and a half minute musical theatre selection
Auditions for the 2008–09 Theater Arts Scholarships will be held Monday through Wednesday, April 7–9, 2008 from 6–10 p.m. To make an appointment for an audition, call (626) 815-5035. These auditions will be combined with auditions for the fall 2008 season of shows, which is still to be announced.
If you are unable to attend auditions in April, you may send in an audition videotape or DVD of two performance selections as listed above. If you choose to send a video, please contact our office to receive an audition application that must be included with your video. All videos must arrive at APU by March 25, 2008. No videos arriving after this date will be considered.
Should you have any questions about these scholarship and audition opportunities, please contact Jeff Martinez, producer, theater and film, at (626) 815-6000, Ext. 5535 or jmartinez@apu.edu.
