Student Opportunities

The Department of Biology and Chemistry does not require that students go through a training internship as part of their academic requirement, but strongly encourages students to consider an internship or a research project as part of their undergraduate education. There are many opportunities available—you only need to find one you’re interested in and take the initiative to get the position.

For students wishing to pursue a postgraduate degree in the health field (e.g., physical therapy, physician’s assistance, dentistry, medicine, etc.), experience in a hospital or clinical setting is extremely important. The experience may be paid or volunteer. View a partial list of internship opportunities in the Los Angeles area.

For those wishing to pursue a master’s or doctoral degree in the sciences, research experience is also very important. There are many fellowship research opportunities available, including APU’s Scholarly Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE). Additionally, you may be able to get involved in a directed research project during the academic year for credit. Contact individual faculty members if you are interested in this.
