Elwin Tobing received his PhD in Economics from the University of Iowa in 2006. His research interests lie at the juncture of health, macroeconomics, and development economics. He is currently studying the macroeconomic effects of demographic change and rising US health spending; the financing of health spending of the elderly US population; the effect health on the international income inequality; and the impact of health on human capital investment. The results of these studies can be used in understanding the extent to which health affects the economy. He has published articles in Journal of Population Economics, Journal of Housing Economics, Public Finance Review, and Economics Letters. Tobing's primary teaching responsibilities include macroeconomics (intermediate and principles levels), econometrics, health economics, labor economics, and economic development.
