Adria (Emberson) Navarro has practiced clinical social work in health care settings for more than 25 years. While employed at Huntington Memorial Hospital (Pasadena, California), Navarro provided clinical leadership in public and private geriatric care management (GCM) programs for the hospital's Senior Care Network, along with management and development of their aging and disability resource center. Throughout her practice she has focused on promoting autonomy, balanced with protection for vulnerable older adults, such as those with impaired decision-making capacity. Previous social work settings include managed care, inpatient psychiatry, adult day health care, and hospital emergency services.

Dr. Navarro graduated from USC, School of Gerontology, and remains co-investigator on studies funded through the National Institute of Justice and the National Institute on Aging. She has provided peer review to Gerontologist, Home Health Care Services Quarterly, and International Journal of Integrated Care. Through funding from the Archstone Foundation and UniHealth Foundation, her research has focused on the interdisciplinary response to elder mistreatment; maximizing quality of life; and elder justice outcomes for financially exploited older adults. She serves as a steering committee member of the California Elder Justice Coalition (CEJC), and is active with the National Association of Social Workers, the Gerontological Society of America (GSA), the National Adult Protective Services Association (NAPSA), and the American Society on Aging (ASA).
