Matt Ryburn

Matt Ryburn returns to Chris Keife’s staff for a third season as an assistant after 1 year away from the program. Ryburn was an assistant coach in 2004 and 2005, Keife’s first 2 seasons at Azusa Pacific.
A 2003 graduate of Azusa Pacific, Ryburn spent 5 seasons as a member of Azusa Pacific’s men’s club volleyball program, including 2 years as the club president. He spent the first 2 seasons as the libero and an outside hitter and then started the final 3 seasons at setter. During his 2000 freshman season, Ryburn competed against Keife, who was a member of Biola’s club team.
Ryburn also spent 4 seasons as a place kicker on Azusa Pacific’s nationally-ranked football team. In 4 seasons, Ryburn was 13-for-25 on field goal attempts with a career long of 43 yards and 86-for-103 on point after attempts. His 125 career points currently ranks eighth on the Cougars’ career scoring chart, and his 86 career PATs ranks second. In 2000, Ryburn tied the school single-game record with 8 PATs in a 56-30 win over Redlands.
In high school, Ryburn played 2 seasons of men’s volleyball at Village Christian High in Sun Valley, Calif., where he was a 4-sport (football, volleyball, soccer, baseball) standout. He was a 3-time All-Alpha League selection in soccer. As a 1998 senior, he earned All-Alpha League honors in volleyball in just his second year of competitive volleyball.
Ryburn graduated with his bachelor’s degree in physical education in December 2003 and finished a master’s in physical education from Azusa Pacific in 2006. He currently works at Arcadia Christian School, where he teaches elementary and junior high physical education and serves as the middle high athletic director. He is single and lives in Glendora.
