THIS YEARM: Azusa Pacific's best triple jumper in over a decade, All-American Monti Sutton is an important figure in the Cougars' pursuit of another sweep of the NAIA indoor and outdoor track titles ... Will press to be among the NAIA's top 3 jumpers ... Seeking to become the first person in history to win 3 straight GSAC triple jump crowns.
2008 (sophomore): Enjoyed a breakthrough 2008 sophomore season in which he became the first Cougar triple jumper in 11 years to earn All-America recognition ... Finished a surprising third at the NAIA outdoors with a leap of 48' 4½” that led the field throughout much of competition ... Won the GSAC title in rather easy fashion with a career-best leap of 49' 1½ inches, nearly 6 feet further than his nearest competitor ... Now has the seventh best triple jump in Azusa Pacific history ... Finished second in the GSAC long jump (22' 6½”)
2007 (freshman): As a freshman put together a fine 2007 spring ... Qualified for the NAIA indoor and outdoor track & field championships in the triple jump (did not advance to the finals) and ran legs on the Cougars' 4x100 relay ... Posted a career best leap of 48' 7½” for the seventh best triple jump in school history ... Won the Golden State Athletic Conference triple jump title with the best leap ever by a freshman (48' 2½”) ... Also had a season best of 11.13 in the 100 meters.
FOOTBALL: Has played 3 seasons on the Cougar football team as a wide receiver and return specialist ... Has appeared in 28 games, averaging 21.4 yards on 45 kickoff returns ... Had an 82-yard return in the 2007 season opener vs. nationally-ranked MidAmerica Nazarene University ... As a 2008 junior had 9 receptions for 108 yards and his first collegiate TD.
HIGH SCHOOL: Was a 3-sport standout at Covina (Calif.) High ... Lettered 2 seasons in track & field, competing for former Cougar Kevin Glaspy ... As a senior, led the Colts to the Valle Vista League title and a third-place finish in the CIF championships after finishing as the CIF runner-up in the triple jump (45' 7”) ... Played basketball 2 seasons ... Also played 3 seasons of varsity football ... As a 2005 senior, named All-CIF first team as wide receiver after tallying 41 receptions for 932 yards and 15 TDs (3 of which came on kickoff returns) ... Was also named Valle Vista League first team both offense and defense after adding 72 tackles and 5 inceptions to his resume ... Best game came against Pacific Coast High in the first round of the CIF playoffs when he registered 11 receptions for 175 yards and 3 TDs ... Led the Colts to an 11-2 record ... As a 2004 junior, led Covina in receiving and reception yards.
