THIS YEAR: A multi-purpose athlete, freshman John Ellis continues his emergence as a quality jumper ... Will focus on the long and triple jumps with equal potential to qualify for the NAIA championships in either or both events ... Should greatly benefit from new jumps coach Brian Arnold.
2008 (freshman): As a 2008 freshman appeared in 9 meets, including the GSAC Championship Meet in Azusa where he finished third in the long jump (22' 0 1/4") and fourth in the triple jump (43' 1 3/4") ... Posted a season-best leaps of 44' 4 3/4" in the triple jump at the Occidental Invitational and 22' 2 1/4" in the long jump at an all-comers at Concordia.
HIGH SCHOOL: Competed 4 seasons in track & field at David Douglas High in Portland, Ore. ... Was a 2-year all-district honoree in both the long and triple jump, winning the district long jump title as a 2007 senior with a career-best leap of 21' 8" ... Finished 11th in the long jump at the state 6A meet ... Also ran a leg on the Scots' 4x100 relay that finished eighth in the state ... Other lifetime bests are 44' 0 1/2" in the triple jump, 15.59 in the 110 hurdles and 43.64 in the 300 hurdles.
