THIS YEAR: One of the just 5 throwers on the team, returnee Nick Cullen-Carroll continues his development as a collegiate t hrower ... Has devoted his full attention to track & field, giving up football after the 2007 season ... Will compete in the shot, discus and hammer with the discus being his strongest suit ... Is expected to score in all 3 events at the GSAC meet.
2008 (freshman): Appeared in 10 meets during his 2008 freshman season, 5 indoor and 5 outdoor ... At the GSAC Championships in Azusa, accounted for 10 points by scoring in the discus (131' 10"/4th), shot (43' 0½"/5th) and hammer (111' 5"/8th) ... Posted a personal-best of 142' 10" (discus) and 116' 4" (hammer) in a meet at Point Loma Nazarene ... Also had a best of 43' 4¼" in the 35-pound weight throw ... Threw the javelin in his final 2 meets of the season, recording a personal best of 138' 8" to finish ninth at the GSAC meet.
HIGH SCHOOL: Competed 4 seasons in track & field at San Jacinto (Calif.) High and was a 3-time All-De Anza League honoree in the discus ... Was a 2-time qualifier in the discus for the CIF Southern Section Division III finals ... As a 2006 senior, helped lead the Tigers to the DeAnza League title by finishing second in the discus (136' 9") and fourth in the shot put (45' 11¾) ... Posted a Riverside County top-10 mark for the season in the discuss at 154' 0½" ... Also earned 2 varsity letters in football (center) and was a 2-time All-De Anza League selection.
PERSONAL: Born May 1, 1988, in Hemet, Calif. ... Parents are Pat (teacher) and Cindy (teacher) Cullen-Carroll ... Has 1 sister (Shanna) ... Majoring in applied exercise science ... Would like to become a strength & conditioning coach ... Actively involved in Olympic weight-lifting competitions ... Also spent a season with the Cougar football team, redshirting the 2007 campaign ... Attended UC Riverside for a season but did compete.
