AZUSA, Calif. -- For the third straight year, Azusa Pacific placed 5 players on the NAIA Women’s Soccer All-American list, and the back-to-back NAIA runner-up Cougars placed 3 on the first team for the second straight season.
Senior midfielder Randie Massro, the 2007 GSAC Player of the Year, became the fifth 3-time NAIA All-American recipient with her first-team selection, and she was joined on the first team by repeat first-team honoree Theresa Broad and sophomore defender Katie Rorabaugh.
Junior forward Sarah Yoro was another first-time honoree with her third team selection, and senior goalkeeper Jill Colfer-Martinson rounded out a spectacular career with honorable mention recognition, her fourth appearance on the NAIA All-American list.
Massro battled through an assortment of injuries over the final month of her senior campaign to keep her starting streak intact through the national championship game, finishing with an 86-game starting streak that spanned every Azusa Pacific contest in her 4-year career. A physical defensive midfielder, Massro also scored 5 goals in 2007, including game-winners in wins over California Baptist and Hope International. She finished with career totals of 16 goals and 13 assists, and she tied for seventh in Cougar history in games played. Massro was a 3-time All-GSAC pick and earned NAIA All-American third team recognition in 2006 after receiving honorable mention selection in 2005.
Broad earned her second straight first team selection despite getting off to a slow start with just 2 goals in Azusa Pacific’s first 6 games. However, once GSAC play began, Broad scored in 6 straight games, finishing with 20 goals in the Cougars’ final 17 games, including back-to-back hat tricks against California Baptist in the NAIA Region II final and Houghton (N.Y.) at the NAIA Tournament. Broad’s career total of 46 goals ties her for third all-time in Azusa Pacific history.
Rorabaugh spearheaded a Cougar defense that surrendered just 14 goals all season and shut out 8 of its 10 GSAC foes. In addition, she helped fill in at forward early in the conference schedule to help offset the nearly month-long loss of 2006 NAIA All-American third team forward Bridget Brotherton to injury. Rorabaugh registered a hat trick in her first-ever start at forward, a 5-1 win in Azusa Pacific’s GSAC-opening 5-1 road win at Fresno Pacific, and she finished with 6 goals and 8 assists on the campaign.
Yoro earned her first-ever NAIA All-American selection with third team recognition after emerging as a top scoring threat. She finished with 13 goals and 7 assists, and she accounted for 5 goals and 4 assists in the Cougars’ 7 postseason contests.
Colfer-Martinson’s selection as an NAIA All-American honorable mention recipient makes her just the fourth 4-time NAIA All-American selection in Azusa Pacific women’s soccer history, along with Jennifer Babel, Kendra Payne and Jennifer Sousa. Colfer-Martinson posted a 0.60 goals against average with 12 shutouts as a 2007 senior, wrapping up her career as the Cougars’ goalkeeping standard-bearer with a career GAA of 0.49 and 46 shutouts, both program records. She also ranks tied for ninth in program history with 84 games played and ranked fourth on the program’s career saves list with 218.
Brotherton, senior forward Mari Kasamoto and junior forward Grace Eleyae were named 2007 Women’s Soccer Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes for their efforts both on the field and in the classroom.
Azusa Pacific has produced at least 3 NAIA Women’s Soccer All-Americans 9 times over the past 10 seasons, and this was the fourth time the Cougars had placed 5 or more on the list.
