Steve Loumagne

Quarterbacks

Longtime local high school coach Steve Loumagne is now his fourth season coaching on the collegiate level. He is handling the Cougar quarterbacks for the third straight year after working with the secondary in 2006, his first season on Victor Santa Cruz's staff.

After helping put together Rudy Carlton's outstanding 2007 campaign in which he threw for over 2,600 yards and 28 TDs, Loumagne now has a fleet of young QBs to develop over the next few seasons, including returning starter sophomore John van den Raadt, and redshirt freshmen Aaron Strazicich and Kramer Hagan.

Prior to his arrival at Azusa Pacific, Loumagne spent the 30 seasons on the local high school level. For 5 years (2001-05) he was the head coach at Western Christian High in Covina, leading the Lancers to the CIF playoffs in 3 seasons. In 2001 he was named the Christian League Coach of the Year after guiding the Lancers to the conference title. Previously, he spent 19 years on the coaching staff at Baldwin Park (Calif.) High and was a key member of a Braves' program that advanced to the 1990 CIF championship game and won the CIF title in 1991. Loumagne remains at Baldwin Park High where he is in his 26th year teaching biology.

A former San Dimas (Calif.) High standout, Loumagne earned the school's ironman award for playing football, basketball and baseball. He graduated from Cal Poly Pomona with a bachelor's degree and later earned his master's in physical education from Azusa Pacific in 1990.

Steve and his wife, Carol, live in La Verne with their 4 children, Greg, Megan, Mike, a junior lineman on the Cougar team, and Sara.
