Damon Hicklin is in his first year on the Cougar coaching staff. He works with the Cougar wide receivers.

Hicklin comes to Azusa Pacific after spending the past 5 years at his alma mater Downey High where he coached the Vikings’ wide receivers on the varsity team.

A veteran wide receiver, Hicklin played his collegiate ball at Fresno State where he lettered 4 years and earned a starter’s call during his 1997 season. He played for veteran college coaches Jim Sweeney and Pat Hill. While with the Bulldogs, Hicklin played in the 1995 Pigskin Classic vs. Ohio State. Later that season, he and his Bulldog teammates played Coloradio in the Aloha Bowl.

His shinning moment came against Western Athletic Conference rival and nationally-ranked Air Force when he caught a 20-yard fourth-down pass to keep the game-tying drive alive. The Bulldogs eventually won in OT.

Hicklin graduated from Fresno State in 1998 with a bachelor’s degree in liberal studies.

Hicklin prepped at Downey (Calif.) High where he played 2 varsity seasons, earning All-CIF and All-San Garbriel Valley League recognition. As a 1991 senior, he was named league offensive MVP after a standout season as a wide receiver, running back, kick returner and even quarterback.

Hicklin also lettered in soccer, track & field and basketball while at Downey. He is a member of the Vikings’ school-record 4x100-meter relay.

Hicklin currently teaches special education at East Middle School in the Downey School District.

Hicklin and his wife, Christina, live in Bellflower, Calif., with their daughter, Alexis.
