Victor Ambruso

Ambruso comes to Azusa Pacific after spending the past 4 years on staff at Mountain View High in El Monte, Calif., working for head coach and former Cougar standout James Wilson. He served as the Vikings' offensive coordinator the past 2 seasons.
Ambruso began his coaching career in 2003 as an assistant coach at El Monte High, which is coached by another former Cougar, Joel Sanchez.
Ambruso was a 2-year outfielder on the Cougar baseball team in 2001 and 2002. In his 85-game career at Azusa Pacific, he batted .367 with 4 home runs, 14 doubles, 40 RBIs and 17 stolen bases. He helped lead the Cougars to the 2001 Golden State Athletic Conference championship. During that season, he set the school single-game record with 6 runs scored in the Cougars' 33-1 victory over GSAC rival Westmont College.
He spent 2 prior seasons playing baseball at DeAnza Junior College in Cupertino, Calif., where he was an All-Coast Conference pick as a sophomore.
Ambruso was a 3-sport standout in at Los Altos (Calif.) High in Northern California where as a 1997 senior he was named the school's male athlete of the year. He garnered leagues honors in both baseball and football (running back). In football, he was selected to play in the prestigious Charlie Wedemeyer All-Star Football Game in 1997. He also lettered in wrestling at Los Altos.
A 2003 graduate of Azusa Pacific, Ambruso earned a bachelor's degree in business marketing. He garnered a master's degree in education from Azusa Pacific in 2006.
Ambruso is in his seventh year teaching math at Mountain View High.
Ambruso, 30, competed in the 2009 Los Angeles Marathon, completing the 26.2-mile run in less than 4 hours. He is single and resides in West Covina.
