THIS YEAR: An emerging presence on the Cougar offense, junior Monti Sutton is valuable kick returner and potential impact player at wide receiver ... Has good speed and toughness, just needs more experience on the college level ... Could put together a breakthrough season as both a returner and receiver.

2007: Appeared in 9 of the Cougars’ 11 games during his 2007 sophomore season, primarily as a return specialist ... returned 7 punts for 55 yards, including a personal-best 27-yarder in the win over Dixie State ... Also returned 14 kickoffs for 351 yards, averaging a team-best 25.1 yards a return ... Had an 82-yard kick return to set up a TD in the season-opener vs. MidAmerica Nazarene ... Did not have a reception.

2006: One of the few true freshman to play for the Cougars during 2006 ... Appeared in all 10 games, primarily on special teams though he did see time as a reserve receiver ... Topped the team by returning 12 kickoffs for 258 yards (21.5 avg.) ... Best return was a 35-yarder vs. Southern Oregon.

TRACK & FIELD:  Is also a member of Azusa Pacific’s 2008 NAIA national championship indoor and outdoor track & field teams ... Captured All-America recognition in the triple jump by finishing third at the outdoor championships with a leap of 48’ 4 1/2” ... Finished 10th in the triple jump at the indoor championship where Cougars captured the team championship by just 1 point ...  Is a 2-time Golden State Athletic Conference triple jump champion, which includes posting a personal best leap of 49’ 1 1/2”, the seventh best jump in program history, at last spring’s conference meet ... Qualified for the 2007 NAIA indoor and outdoor championships in the triple jump Won the Golden State Athletic Conference triple jump title with the best leap ever by a freshman (48’ 2½”) ... Also posted a season best of 11.13 in the 100 meters.   

HIGH SCHOOL:  Was a 3-sport standout at Covina (Calif.) High ... Played 3 seasons of varsity football ... As a 2005 senior, named All-CIF first team as wide receiver after tallying 41 receptions for 932 yards and 15 TDs  (3 of which came on kickoff returns) ... Was also named Valle Vista League first team both offense and defense after adding 72 tackles and 5 inceptions to his resume ... Best game came against University High in the first round of the CIF playoffs when he registered 11 receptions for 175 yards and 3 TDs ... Led the Colts to an 11-2 record ... As a 2004 junior, led Covina in receiving and reception yards ... Also lettered 2 seasons in track & field, competing for former Cougar Kevin Glaspy ... As a senior, led the Colts to the Valle Vista League title and a third-place finish in the CIF championships after finishing as the CIF runner-up in the triple jump (45’ 7”) ... Played basketball 2 seasons.   

PERSONAL:  Born April 8, 1988, in Los Angeles, Calif. ... Parents are Tammy Cooper and Andre Sutton ... Has 2 sisters (Brittani, Jasmine) ... Majoring in Psychology.
