THIS YEAR: An all-around quality player, Casey Roel is the anchor of the Cougar defensive line ... Known as a relentless and dynamic pass rusher … Quite smart about the game and understands the Cougars system very well ... Could push for postseason honors:

2006: Started all 10 games during his 2006 junior season ... Was fifth on the team with 46 tackles (19 solo) and was third with 10 tackles for loss ... Toped the team with 6 QB sacks ... Had a nose for the ball, registering a team-high 3 fumble recoveries, including one he returned 23 yards for his first collegiate score in the game at Southern Nazarene ... Recorded a career-high 10 tackles (2 solo) vs. Humboldt State but his best effort may have come against Dixie State when he tallied 7 tackles (5 solo), including 3.5 sacks for a loss of 27 yards to go along with a forced fumble.

2005: As a 2005 sophomore linebacker, his first season at Azusa Pacific, appeared in 9 of the Cougars’ 10 games, either off the bench as a reserve or on special teams … Recorded 5 tackles, including an 11-yard QB sack in the victory over Willamette.

WHEATON: As a 2004 true-freshman, played on the junior varsity team at Wheaton (Ill.) College but did play on the special teams on the varsity level.

HIGH SCHOOL: Was a 4-year letterman at Santa Fe Christian High in Solana Beach, Calif., playing for former NFL quarterback Brian Sipe … As a 2003 senior, teamed with current Cougars Alex Peltier and Trevor Love) to lead the Eagles to the CIF championship (played linebacker and running back) … In 13 games had 75 tackles (60 solo), twice tallying a game-high of 10 takedowns … As Peltier’s sidekick in the backfield, rushed for 340 yards on 53 carries (6.4 avg.), scoring 6 TDs … Best game came in a 40-18 victory over Kearny High, rushing for 106 yards and 2 TDs on 11 carries … Named Coastal League Defensive MVP as a junior and senior and All-CIF as a senior … Selected to the All-North County team … Also played 1 season of baseball (outfielder) and ran track (100m).

PERSONAL: Born Sept. 10, 1985, in La Jolla, Calif., to Tom (real estate) and Cindy (accountant) Roel … Has 3 brothers (Nick, Sean, Dane) … Majoring in communication ... Is related to the Boone family of Major League Baseball, Bob (uncle), Bret and Aaron (cousins) … Made mission trips to Africa and Mexico.
