THIS YEAR: Sophomore Amilcar Archila is a key returnee to the Cougar secondary … Outstanding athlete with good speed and solid understanding of the game ... Can fill in as a return specialist, if necessary.
2006: Appeared in 7 of the Cougars’ 10 games, all off the bench, gaining valuable experience ... Returned 8 kickoffs for 236 yards (29.5 avg.), including a team season-best 61-yarder vs. Southern Nazarene.
2005: Redshirted his first season at Azusa Pacific.
HIGH SCHOOL: Was a 3-sport standout at El Monte (Calif.) High where in football he played 3 different positions during his 3-year varsity career … As a 2004 senior quarterback, spearheaded an option offense by throwing for 1,619 yards and 11 TDs for the 5-5 Lions while topping the team with 294 rushing yards on 53 carries (5.5 avg.) … Threw for a career-high 297 yards and 2 TDs and rushed for another 53 yards in a 31-14 victory over Azusa High … Named Mission Valley League Back of the Year … Also earned All-CIF second team recognition and was accorded all-valley honorable mention by the San Gabriel Valley Tribune … As a defenseive back, tallied 26 tackles, including a single-game best of 7 takedowns twice, while collecting 3 interceptions … Also played running back … Coached by former Cougar Joel Sanchez, a linebacker on Azusa Pacific’s 1998 NAIA national championship team … Lettered 2 years in basketball and 2 years in baseball (OF/P).
