Opening Round Central

AZUSA, Calif. -- Azusa Pacific University is 1 of 9 sites hosting the 2009 NAIA Baseball National Championship Opening Round, a 5-team, double-elimination format tournament that will run from May 12-15 at the Cougar Baseball Complex. The national-tournament event kicked off Monday evening with the Opening Round celebration that honored the Champions of Character award winner from each participating team along with featured guest speaker Mike Price.

Opening Round games in Azusa are scheduled as follows.

Tuesday, May 12
GAME 1 (11 a.m.): Azusa Pacific def. Purdue North Central, 18-4 Story
GAME 2 (2:15 p.m.): British Columbia def. Biola, 8-6 Story
GAME 3 (5:30 p.m.): Point Loma Nazarene def. Azusa Pacific, 8-1 Story

Wednesday, May 13
GAME 4 (11 a.m.): Biola def. Purdue North Central, 16-2 (PNC eliminated) Story
GAME 5 (2:15 p.m.): Point Loma Nazarene def. British Columbia, 7-2 Story
GAME 6 (5:30 p.m.): Azusa Pacific def. Biola, 9-8 (Biola eliminated) Story

Thursday, May 14
GAME 7 (2 p.m.): Azusa Pacific def. British Columbia, 15-12 (British Columbia eliminated) Story
GAME 8 (5:30 p.m.): Point Loma Nazarene def. Azusa Pacific, 12-1 (Azusa Pacific eliminated) Story

Admission prices for the tournament are as follows:
Single-day admission - $10
Tournament pass - $25
Children under 10 - free

Parking is available in Parking Lot A, next to the football stadium and a short walk from the Cougar Baseball Complex. Parking Lot C is closed to the general public during the Opening Round tournament. Click here for a campus map.

The 9 Opening Round tournament champions will advance along with Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) to the 10-team NAIA World Series in Lewiston, Idaho. The seeds for the Azusa Pacific-hosted Opening Round tournament are as follows:

No. 1 seed: Point Loma Nazarene
No. 2 seed: British Columbia
No. 3 seed: Biola
No. 4 seed: Azusa Pacific
No. 5 seed: Purdue North Central
